Is there a Repair Technician Hall of Fame? I don't know, but Dale Granger-Eckert would have to be a founding member. Dale recently retired from Circuit Technology Center after more than 31 years as a senior repair technician. Her contributions to circuit board rework and repair have been immense.

Dale joined Circuit Technology Center during the days of through-hole assembly, bringing exceptional soldering skills and a strong understanding of circuit board assembly techniques. What she accomplished from there is remarkable.

Beyond her expertise, Dale is a genuinely great person. An avid runner, she has competed in many marathons and is a dedicated supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Andy Price, Senior Sales Manager, commented, "Dale is a true professional who developed and pioneered many procedures that are now commonplace in circuit board repair. Finding a technician with her knowledge, patience, analytical ability, and surgeon-like skill is rare.

"Her technical abilities are surpassed only by her kind and thoughtful character. She has always been willing to share her knowledge and help others succeed. Her impact cannot be overstated. She has worked on defense systems, lifesaving medical products, and telecommunications equipment that keeps us informed. She is among the best we have ever had—or ever will have."

Peter Vigneau, VP and General Manager, added, "Dale’s retirement comes with mixed emotions. We are happy for her, but it is difficult to see such a great person and talent walk out the door. Dale represents the perfect combination of technical aptitude, industry knowledge, a jeweler’s dexterity, and a creative engineering approach to the most challenging rework and repair projects.

"Put simply, Dale helped write the book. Fortunately, her patient and unselfish sharing of knowledge has left us better prepared to handle almost any challenge on the horizon." Jeff Ferry, President

"Over the past three decades, we've participated as members of the IPC Repairability committee. We've submitted numerous procedures and hundreds of illustrations, now included in the IPC-7711/7721: Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies. Several of the most challenging procedures were refined and documented with significant contributions from Dale Granger-Ekert, including the following:

These last two procedures, which deal with damage to BGA pads, are excellent examples of challenging repair procedures. Not only did Dale help define these procedures, but she also performed them herself and taught many other technicians at Circuit Technology Center how to perform them efficiently and reliably. Dale is a gem; we will miss her."
